Healthy Valleys Takes Over Thornton Road Community Centre

April 2025

Healthy Valleys (HV) is delighted to announce the successful transfer of Thornton Road Community Centre (TRCC) through a community transfer. This milestone marks an exciting new chapter for both organisations and the wider communities of Kirkmuirhill and Blackwood.

Healthy Valleys would like to express sincere gratitude to the TRCCA committee for placing their trust in HV to continue the excellent work they have provided to the local community over the years. HV is excited and looks forward to working even more closely with local residents, bringing new opportunities and expanded services to support children, adults and older people.

Having delivered impactful programmes in and around the area since its establishment in 2003, HV already operates a successful weekly community café and a bike hub at the centre. This long-standing presence highlights HVs’ commitment to promoting wellbeing, inclusion, and community engagement.

The transfer process has been a collaborative effort, with HV working closely with the TRCCA committee’s chairperson and trustees to help realise their vision for the future of the centre. This partnership aligns with HVs’ strategic vision of developing a ‘hub and spoke’ model that enables the organisation to deliver high-quality, place-based programmes tailored to local needs.

Lesley McCranor, Executive Manager of Healthy Valleys, said: “We are honoured to take on the stewardship of Thornton Road Community Centre and are deeply grateful to the TRCCA for their trust and collaboration. This transition allows us to strengthen our connection with the communities of surrounding villages, creating more opportunities for local people to access support, build relationships, and enhance their wellbeing. We look forward to working together to ensure the centre remains a thriving place for all.”

The transition represents an opportunity to further develop TRCC as a vibrant centre of activity and support, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of the local communities for years to come. HV is committed to building on the centre’s legacy, expanding its services, and fostering a welcoming space where individuals and families can connect, thrive, and achieve their full potential.
