South Lanarkshire organisation supporting women shortlisted for Audrey Birt Self-Management Champion award

August 2025

Healthy Valleys 'Women Living Well' is one of 27 projects across Scotland to be shortlisted for their work supporting people with long term health conditions to help improve their quality of life.

The Self-Management Awards, run by the Health and Social Care Alliance (the ALLIANCE), present the annual accolades in recognition and celebration of the achievements of people and projects that have contributed the most to self-management in Scotland over the past year.

The Self Management Awards are part of the ALLIANCE’s annual Self Management Week, which are set to run from 22 to 25 September 2025, with a range of activities and events taking place to promote self management practices.

Healthy Valleys ‘Women Living Well’ project was launched to create fair, inclusive spaces where women can gather, engage, connect with others, safely discuss issues, gain knowledge to support their health and wellbeing, manage chronic illnesses, transition well through menopause and/or other women's health concerns, especially when they are feeling distressed and alone. Eleven volunteers have been nominated for Audrey Birt Self Management Champion award for their dedication and support to this project since the start of it. These phenomenal women have given their spare time, weekly, monthly, or more, to offer their own knowledge, skills, and share personal experiences to encourage and assist others in discovering their own resilience.

Amanda Taylor, Resilient Communities Team Leader at Healthy Valleys, said:

“This recognition of Healthy Valleys Women Living Well Programme shortlisted for Audrey Birt Self-Management Champion award is great testament to the hard work and dedication of its lead worker and enthusiastic volunteers who support it. We are very proud of the great work that has been attributed to this project and the amazing positive outcomes it is achieving.”

Sara Redmond, Chief Officer, at the Health and Social Care Alliance, said:

“Self management is at the heart of our work around health and social care, and the Self Management Awards give us a chance to celebrate the best of people and projects supporting self management across Scotland. With Self Management Week this year focussing on ‘what I need to lead,’ all of the finalists exemplify approaches that empower people to become leading partners in the management of their health.”

The ALLIANCE is the national third sector membership organisation for the health and social care sector, representing 3,500 members.
