First Minister John Swinney joined SNP Candidate for Clydesdale Máiri McAllan with a visit to Healthy Valleys in Lanark.
The First Minister and Máiri McAllan visited Smyllum Community Hub and Gear Up in Lanark, both community-led initiatives that supports families and communities in rural Clydesdale through support for parents and active travel.
Máiri McAllan and the First Minister highlighted the SNP’s commitment to eradicating child poverty, through policies such as the Scottish Child Payment, and pledges to support families such as the expansion of childcare provision from 9 months to the end of Primary School and breakfast clubs in every primary school.
Máiri McAllan, in her time as MSP for Clydesdale, has been hugely supportive of Healthy Valleys – such as with their recently successful Community Asset Transfer appeal to transform the former McClymont House building into a new asset for the whole community.
If re-elected as Clydesdale’s local MSP on 7th May, Máiri McAllan will continue to be a champion for organisations such as Healthy Valleys who do a power of work changing lives for the better.
Máiri McAllan said:
“I was so pleased to welcome the First Minister to Clydesdale with a visit to the fantastic Healthy Valleys in Lanark. We got to speak to the ladies running the organisation at Smyllum Community Hub and other projects, who all do so much good for people in Clydesdale.
“One of the things that the SNP is working towards most of all is the eradication of child poverty in our country. Through policies which leading charities have described as game-changing, such as the Scottish Child Payment, and our pledged expansion for the option of childcare from 9 months to end of Primary, these are some examples of how the SNP is on the side of families in Clydesdale and Scotland.
“Healthy Valleys and others in Clydesdale do amazing work for families and community wellbeing, which is so important, and as Clydesdale’s MSP I have been delighted to stand with them and will continue to do so.
“For a local champion for Clydesdale and a party on Scotland’s side, it’s important to make it both votes SNP on 7th May.”
Lesley McCranor, Executive Manager of Healthy Valleys said:
“We were excited and delighted to welcome the First Minister and Máiri McAllan to Healthy Valleys today.
“He met with some of our parents and children during the messy play session at Smyllum Community Hub before heading to Gear Up, our Active Travel Hub
“We shared our vision for transforming McClymont House back to a vibrant and accessible community asset.”
